Mr. Rakatani Raka is a highly experienced litigation lawyer with nearly two decades of legal practice in Papua New Guinea. He is a senior associate at Stout Lawyers, specialising in civil and commercial litigation, with extensive advocacy experience before the National Court and Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea.

Admitted to practice in 2005 after completing his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Papua New Guinea and professional training at the PNG Legal Training Institute, Mr. Raka has been a continuous member of the Papua New Guinea Law Society since 2006. He has also undertaken advanced advocacy training through the Local Bar and Victorian Bar Intensive Civil and Criminal Advocacy Workshop, strengthening his courtroom and appellate expertise.

Throughout his career, Mr. Raka has held senior litigation roles at leading law firms including Posman Kua Aisi Lawyers, Elemi Lawyers, Nelson Lawyers, and Henaos Lawyers, before joining Stout Lawyers. He has acted for a wide range of clients, including the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, statutory authorities, financial institutions, mining and logging companies, and insurers.

His practice covers complex matters involving finance and banking, mining and natural resources (including Porgera Gold Mine–related litigation), insurance, contracts, election petitions, criminal defence and appeals, Supreme Court References, and alternative dispute resolution. He has also represented major state-owned enterprises and regulators, including Air Niugini, PNG Ports Corporation Ltd, National Fisheries Authority, National Capital District Commission, MRDC, and the Securities Commission of PNG.

In addition, Mr. Raka has significant experience in trust and fund management disputes, personal injury litigation, land and conveyancing matters, and has regularly appeared before Local and Provincial Land Courts. As a senior practitioner, he has supervised and mentored junior lawyers and contributed to the effective management of litigation teams.
